Lampre Merida : Rui con i migliori nei Paesi Baschi buon 9° posto

Alla prestazione difensiva della 3^frazione della Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Rui Costa ha saputo dare un seguito di valore, cogliendo il 9° posto nella 4^tappa, la Zumarraga-Eibar (Arrate) di 162,2 km.

Arrivo tradizionale della corsa basca con la sempre selettiva ascesa dell’Alto de Uzartza a 2,2 km dall’arrivo, con strada in discesa fino al traguardo: Rui ha trovato un passo molto redditizio in salita che gli ha consentito di scollinare in un selezionato gruppo di 12 corridori, lanciatisi poi in discesa verso il traguardo in una lunga volata vinta da Rodriguez (foto Bettini, Rui sullo sfondo).
Il portoghese della LAMPRE-MERIDA ha tagliato il traguardo al 9° posto, risultato che gli ha consentito di guadagnare in classifica generale ben 9 posizioni risalendo in 12^piazza a 26″ dal leader Henao.

Ancora una bella prestazione da parte di tutta la formazione blu-fucsia-verde, come sottolineato da Philippe Mauduit, tecnico che sta guidando la squadra assieme al collega Marco Marzano: “I ragazzi sono stati bravi a interpretare in maniera attiva e con grinta la tappa fin dai primi chilometri: già dalle battute iniziali, infatti, il ritmo è stato altissimo, con molti tentativi di fuga nei quali eravamo sempre presenti a turno con Serpa, Bono, Ulissi e Conti.
Fino alla penultima salita, Rui ha potuto contare sull’aiuto di Plaza e Serpa, poi è stato ancora una volta Polanc a portare il capitano all’imbocco dell’ultima ascesa”.

A very good performance by Rui Costa followed the defensive day that he lived yesterday.
In the 4th stage of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco (Zumarraga-Eibar Arrate, 162,2 km), the Portuguese cyclist reached the arrival with the top riders, obtaining the 9th place.

On the traditional climb of the Alto de Uzartza, LAMPRE-MERIDA’s captain succeeded in setting a very good pace that allowed him to be in the main group until the summit of the Kom, at 2,2 km to go, and then he covered the downhill to the arrival with the selected group of 12 riders whose sprint was won by Rodriguez (photo Bettini).

Thanks to the 9th place, Rui Costa is now 12th in the overall classification, at 26″ to the leader Henao.

The whole Team LAMPRE-MERIDA realized another good performance, as sport director Mauduit pointed out: “I was happy to see that our riders perform the stage in a active way, as it was necessary.
We were in all the attempts of attack that characterized the early kilometers of the race, thanks to Serpa, Ulissi, Bono and Conti, and in the final part of the stage Polanc was once again a perfect support for Rui Costa in the approach of the hills”.
