Il fine settimana dell’UAE Team Emirates tra Toscana e Francia

Dopo la trionfale trasferta negli Emirati Arabi Uniti con il successo nell’Abu Dhabi Tour, l’UAE Team Emirates sarà di scena in Europa, con un doppio appuntamento italiano e un evento francese.

Sabato 4 marzo, la formazione emiratina correrà la gara World Tour della Strade Bianche, concludendo poi domenica 5 marzo il fine settimana italiano con la partecipazione al Gp Industria & Artigianato a Larciano.
Domenica 5 marzo scatterà anche la breve corsa a tappe francese della Parigi-Nizza, inserita nel calendario World Tour.

Per ciascuno dei tre appuntamenti, l’UAE Team Emirates farà affidamento su differenti formazioni:
– sabato 4 marzo, Strade Bianche: Kristijan Durasek, Vegard Laengen, Marco Marcato, Sacha Modolo, Matej Mohoric, Przemyslaw Niemiec, Edward Ravasi, Oliviero Troia. Direttori sportivi: Orlando Maini e Daniele Righi.

– domenica 5 marzo, Gp Industria & Artigianato: Valerio Conti, Kristijan Durasek, Roberto Ferrari, Filippo Ganna, Marco Marcato, Przemyslaw Niemiec, Edward Ravasi, Oliviero Troia. Direttori sportivi: Orlando Maini e Daniele Righi.

– dal 5 al 12 marzo, Parigi-Nizza: Matteo Bono, Andrea Guardini, Manuele Mori, Simone Petilli, Jan Polanc, Ben Swift, Diego Ulissi, Federico Zurlo. Direttori sportivi: Mario Scirea e Simone Pedrazzini.

Il direttore Orlando Maini ha descritto i possibili scenari di gara per il fine settimana italiano:
“Le Strade Bianche è una corsa selettiva, il percorso porta gradualmente a un assottigliamento del gruppo, solo i migliori atleti rimangono in lizza per il successo dopo gli ultimi 4 degli 11 settori di sterrato.
Per sabato è previsto brutto tempo, si alza così il livello di difficoltà.
E’ fondamentale essere già concentrati nei primi chilometri, perché eventuali fughe di gruppetti numerosi possono portare ad arrivare molto vicino al traguardo, di conseguenza dobbiamo essere pronti anche noi ad anticipare gli attacchi.
Entreranno in azione nella seconda parte di gara Niemiec, 9° nel 2015, e Laengen, assieme a Marcato e Mohoric: non abbiamo i favori del pronostico ma, lavorando con cura e muovendosi con i giusti tempi, possiamo sicuramente toglierci qualche soddisfazione.

Il tempismo sarà la importante anche nel Gp Industria & Artigianato, corsa che presenterà però un finale maggiormente adatto agli scalatori. Durasek e Conti saranno le nostre due punte per la gara toscana, senza dimenticare però che tutti gli altri nostri atleti hanno le potenzialità per inserirsi in fughe dalla distanza o per anticipare nel finale”.

Per quanto riguarda la Parigi-Nizza, Diego Ulissi tornerà al via della “Corsa verso il sole” dopo alcuni anni di assenza (ultima partecipazione nel 2013): “Quest’anno il mio programma mi porta in Francia, in una corsa per la quale ho buone ambizioni.
Nel 2013 ho concluso nella top 10, cogliendo il 7° posto, non nascondo che mi piacerebbe essere nei quartieri alti della classifica anche quest’anno. La condizione, come dimostrato nelle ultime uscite e nel recente Abu Dhabi Tour, è buona e la squadra, con il giusto misto di passisti, scalatori e uomini di esperienza, è adatta per essere competitivi in ogni frazione.
Le tappe a me più congeniali sono le ultime tre: la 6^ da Aubagne a Fayence, la 7^ con l’arrivo in salita sul Col de la Couillole, l’8^ con partenza e arrivo a Nizza e con la scalata del Col d’Eze.
Sarà fondamentale passare indenni le prime frazioni, spesso condizionate da maltempo e dal vento”.

After the winning participation in the Abu Dhabi tour, UAE Team Emirates will race in Europe, having in its schedule two Italian events and one French appointment.

On Saturday 4th March, the Emirati team will participate in the World Tour race Strade Bianche riding on the Colnago bikes the iconic dusty roads in Tuscany; on Sunday 5th March, the Italian weekend will be ended with the GP Industria & Artigianato in Larciano.
On Sunday 5th March, in France UAE Team Emirates will be at the start of the Paris-Nice (World Tour event).

In each of these races, UAE Team Emirates’ line-up will vary:

Sports director Orlando Maini described the prospective for the Italian weekend:
“Strade Bianche is a selective race, only the best riders usually succeed in remaining in the front of the race after the 4 on 11 dirty roads sectors.
Weather forecasts say there will be bad weather in the weekend, this will raise the difficulty level of the race.
It’s important to be ready immediately after the start to join the breakaways, because in case of large breakaways there could be the chance that the attackers lead the race for many kilometers.
In the second part of the course, Niemiec, who was 9th in 2015 edition, and Laengen will be in charge of following later attacks, together with Marcato and Mohoric: we are not in the front line of the top favourites, however we feel that racing with attention and making the proper moves in the proper timing we’ll be able to obtain satisfactions.

Timing will be a key element in GP Industria & Artigianato too. In this race, the final part of the course will be suitable for the climber, that’s why Durasek and Conti will be our duo of leaders. We’ll rely on very interesting alternatives, because all of our riders are skilled to join breakaways and to attack in the final kilometers”.

Form what concerns Paris-Nice, Diego Ulissi will come back to the “Race to the Sun” after his latest participation dated 2013: “This year’s program of races brings me to France, for a race in which I’ll aim to important goals.
In 2013 I was in the top 10, obtaining the final 7th place, that’s why I could not deny that I’d like to be in the top part of the general classification this year too.
My form, as I demonstrated in the Abu Dhabi Tour, is good, and the team, in whose line-up there will be a mix of climbers, rouleurs and experienced riders, will be ready to face every different situation.
The stages more suitable for me will be the 6th, from Aubagne to Fayence, the 7th with summit arrival on the Col de la Couillole and the 8th with start and arrival in Nice and the climb of the Col d’Eze.
It will be very important to pass without problems the early stages, which are usually characterized by rain and wind”.
